Hi there,

WOW! It has been done, Cape Reinga to Wellington on Postie bikes, 1700kms and what a wild time! It's really hard to describe in print how much of a great time was had by all, but I know each and every person that participated in this event will have a great memory for life and want to be involved in years to come I'm sure!

It all started on a whim. I thought “I need to do something crazy with my kids, so let's go touring guys, (umm yer ok)” was sort of how it went! So then I thought, if I'm keen maybe others are too? Our lives become so busy just trying to exist that I also wanted to do this for a reason, or to make a difference to someone elses life, to coin a phrase “put it back”. Then it came to me, 10 years prior I had the opportunity to take our group of Scouts to a Camp Quality camp in Levin one night. I didn't know who the they were, but we all went anyhow. It's quite funny really as I don't remember a lot of what happened that night, but what got to me was these kids attitudes. Wow, these kids were so keen and eager to live, and these camps gave them hope and aspirations of what life has to offer, which helps when they are sick and down. The real thing is that some of these kids don't make it! I don't think I could be a camp helper as you have to be a very special person to be able to give your all to these neat (but ordinary kids). I left that camp that night thinking I would like to help, and now that time is here. So I approached Camp Quality last year and so the relationship began.

 We had three goals;

1. Build awareness of Camp Quality. They need support from us all!

2. Make a difference - change a life and give hope to a kid.

3. “Put it back”. How many of you have been helped by someone giving up their time to help you, instruct you, hold your hand, push you to your limits and help make you who you are today?

So I would like to thank some very important people that helped make this happen;

Web Genius; who had the balls to get out there and help on the whim of a dreamer, not knowing if it would be a success?! And Phil Simmons for the graphics, what an awesome job!

Bluewing Honda; and all their shops that helped out along the way. Thank you all for your fabulous support!! (I'm over BBQ sausies though :-) )

DCR Vehicle Rentals; came to the party big time with the van, a god-send really, we would have been lost without that.

Auckland Motorcycle Club; for allowing us some laps at Hampton Downs – probably one of the most memorable things for each rider!

CRT Fuels; to help out with fuel.

G J Gardner Homes Palmerston North; for their support.

Brian (Montser), Jo (Go) & Lyn (Hollywood); without these people I would be insane!

So what did we do? Well we started at The Cape, went down 90 Mile Beach, with Camp Quality patiently waiting for us at Honda in Kaitaia (and yep, with sausages again :-) ), then inland over great country through rain forests, fantastic Kauri Museums, and staying at Motor Camps all the way, many giving to the cause which was great. We met Stacy Jones at a function at Manukau City, put on by Camp Quality (and yep Stacy, I will keep you to your word to come down the beach with us next year) Then down to Hampton Downs, the newest motorsport race track north of Hamilton, for a hot lap or two at Round 5 of the NZ Super Bike Champs (we were the draw card event??) Thank you Auckland Motorcycle Club you are great, and sorry that was a hot lap for us 70 kmh!!) over to Raglan, wow what a great coast down to New Plymouth, 8 hours riding (*??*) but it only felt like 3 with perfect roads for us. At New Plymouth up and around the Mount, with a small night ride. Palmerston North, then Wellington. This is such a brief description, there was too much to cover, too much fun, and too many laughs!! If you really want to know, you'll have to join us next year.

So we are now planing the next great Postie Bike Challenge to be run around the same time 2011

This is gona be bigger but I dont think that I can make it better ,we are going down the East side this time going to have a few detours (and wow look out you will be blown away) along the way.

What I can promise you is that you will see NZ as never seen before, you will see bits that you have never been to and have a sore ass like you cant imagine.

You will lounge in hot pools that you didnt know about ,ride a ct 110 faster than you should. And if you are as lucky as I have been, you will make some friends that you know you will have for a long time . You will laugh so much it will hurt but then you will realise its you your laughing at!.

You will get a nick name that (in my case totally wrong im just missunerstood)you might hate. You will eat great food (maybe a bit late sometimes!).

And yes you will be able to tick this off your bucket list as it is now a bucket list item.

Something that I had realised on the first day was that I am just a guy who managed to get 15 people togeather that didnt know each other and they all hit it off and they are the ones who deserver the credit on making this event great.
NOTE;  PLEASE GO AND CLICK ON OUR SPONSERS PAGES AS WITHOUT THEM THIS WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE

What's the Postie Bike Challenge all about?

One thing's for sure, the Postie Bike Challenge will be unlike any other experience you have ever had - a ride from the top to the bottom of the North Island.

From Cape Reinga in the north all the way to Wellington, you will be journeying with any number of other adventurers - all riding Postie Bikes - that is the mighty Honda CT110 (and CT90 for those who aren't game for the big bike!)

Seven days in March 2011  full of fun, excitement, adrenaline and friendship, seeing the country as you've never seen it before and supporting a great charity at the same time.

This year's Postie Bike Challenge is in support of Camp Quality - a kids foundation that is dedicated to bringing fun, hope and happiness to children (aged 5 to 12 years) living with cancer.

We'll be travelling on sealed roads with special stages along the way. (We're still in the planning stage at the moment, so sign up for our newsletter and we will keep you informed as the plan develops!)

In a nutshell we ride for six days down the East coast of the North Island with all roads as close to the coast and beaches as we can. You supply the bike, tent and bedding. We will take care of the accommodation, food, fuel and fun.  As a courtesy we are currently working on being able to supply a truck and bus to transport you and your bike to the start ,but don't count on it.

What does it cost for me to take part?

The cost of the ride will be $1600, & we will require a $500 non-refundable deposit from you around November as a firm commitment to your coming on the ride.  We are getting a very good response and seriously thinking of having a cut-off number this year, so it will be on a first in is in basis.  All money is paid to Camp Quality and they give you a Tax Deductible Receipt for the amount.

We envisage you being able to fundraise all the money via sponsorship from family, work-mates, pubs, friends (if you have any... being CT110 owners??... - only joking!), which should not be too difficult, but you may fundraise the entire amount to participate in the ride.  We are most grateful to now have "Give A Little" to assist you with your fundraising efforts - www.givealittle.co.nz .

Tell you what though, there's a lot of you Postie Bike riders out there, so right now there's no telling how many of you are going to be zipping through the countryside with us in March 2011. So do sign up to join the Challenge or get in touch if you have any questions.

What can you expect from the challenge?

You will experience all sorts of things going through your head, a bit of fear, a bit of doubt, excitement and adrenaline on the morning of our departure. The only solution is to get on your bike and live the experience, enjoy the exhilaration of completing the Challenge!  I would say most fears will go when your belting down 90 mile beach with 20 other idiots !!!!

You'll be making a few friends when you're on the ride, as you'll find that the people that do this sort of thing are all a bit similar... (loopy - in a nice kind of way).  Friends you are likely to keep well beyond the completion of the Challenge and who'll be there on the South Island tour next year.

And once you get your head around travelling at 65-75km/hr (as I've found out, if you're fat like me you dont reach terminal velocity as fast as the anorexics!!)  You'll be amazed at how your perception of life (why is this taking so long!!??!!) ...and the New Zealand landscape will have changed on completion of the event.

You don't need to be an expert rider to take part in the Postie Bike Challenge.  Riding on ct 110cc motorcycles is the greatest equaliser regardless of your skill level.  But the event is a challenge, and there will be times where the distances will test your confidence and determination and sanity.

You can choose to ride alone or with others, but there is no mistaking the sense of achievement that such an event inspires.  You can enjoy the independence that the event affords, though still be assured that one of our vehicles with mechanics, first aid, fuel and water, and good humour (and yep there'll be the "TOOL Of The Day Award) are not far away, as they move back and forth amongst the riders.

Our riders will come from all walks of life, but most importantly they all have a sense of humour (if you haven't, don't come).  You have to laugh at all my jokes, have a helpful attitude, an ability to cope with the unexpected, and a willingness to work with and help others if there are any issues.  These are all essential attributes you need to undertake this challenge. You should be mature enough to ride and travel independently, but also be a source of support to others.  A reasonable degree of fitness is important, given you may be on the road for between 4-6 hrs some days... (na forget the fitness thing, if you can sit on your ass for 5 hours you'll do great!!)

LOOK OUT 2011 WE ARE DOING EAST COAST YEEE HA!!

So keep in touch!

We will put people in touch with each other if they live in same area, so now's a good time to drop us a line and we'll stay in touch.  Organizing an event like this is a team effort. If you've got any ideas or anything else to offer we want to hear from you.  Please email any suggestions and definitely sign up for our mailing list and we'll keep in touch.

Spread the word!  There's a whole lot of people out there like you, who will join the Challenge, so the earlier they hear about this the better.
